Quality assurance and standards

The University of West Attica remains committed to providing high-quality higher education to its students, as well as to developing the appropriate conditions for a creative research and work environment for its staff. The commitment of the faculty members and the administrative staff of the BSc “Artificial Intelligence and Data Science” for continuous improvement of teaching, research work and services provided is a primary choice of management and responsibility.

The BSc has established and implements a specific quality policy, which is fully linked to the legal and regulatory framework governing the operation of the University of West Attica. Through the establishment, evaluation and redefinition of the quality policy, the BSc is committed to achieving even higher performance and pursuing excellence at all levels. With this strategy it will highlight values, standards and examples, in order to contribute to the university’s pursuit of high-quality teaching and research results, for the benefit of the wider society and the country.

The University of West Attica, in cooperation with the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU), has harmonized the Quality Policy of the Undergraduate Study Programme (BSc) in accordance with the principles of the University’s Quality Policy (Decision of the Board of the Institute, 4th special meeting, 08-05-2020).

Objectives of the Programme:

  1. the creation of a strong academic background in the subjects covered by the programme and also the multidisciplinarity to the extent possible for cultivating conscious scientists and citizens.
  2. the preparation of the professional career of its graduates through the understanding of science with modern technological means and methods, based on Greek and international literature,
  3. Developing the capacity of its graduates, within a fast-growing society and global economy, to adapt to new facts and to cope with the challenges and demands of the future.

All the activities of the BSc aim at the continuous formulation and development of a flexible and modern curriculum. In addition, the mission of the BSc is to contribute to national and local economic development by attracting a sufficient number of international students who will contribute towards the central objective of internationalization of Greek education and the extraversion of domestic institutions by making the country a pole of attraction for international students and creating added value in both academic and economic terms.

Strategic objectives of the BSc, harmonized and derived from the quality policy of the University of West Attica are:

  • Providing High-level Education.
  • Promotion of quality research
  • Strengthening the Extroversion and Internationalization of the University.
  • Improving the Academic Environment and Infrastructure.
  • Human Resource Development.

The main axes on which the policy of ensuring and improving the quality of the University of West Attica, which are connected and are part of the strategy of the West Attica University, are as follows:

  • The continuous reform and improvement of the curricula provided to follow the contemporary academic developments, developments in science and professional field.
  • Strengthening student-centred learning.
  • Ensuring a favourable environment for studies as a key factor in improving student performance.
  • Provide incentives to support the research of members of the academic community of the BSc
  • Transparency and observance of the rules of operation of the University by all parties involved.
  • Strengthening the multi-level research project.
  • The output of more and of significant impact publications in international peer reviewed scientific journals, collective volumes and minutes of conferences.
  • The dissemination of the results of the research of the members of the BSc to the wider society.
  • The continuous improvement of the working conditions of teaching, research, administrative and other staff.
  • The strengthening of transnational cooperation programmes that provide for the mobility of students and members of teaching and research staff.
  • Strengthening cooperation with foreign and domestic institutions, disseminating and strengthening research projects and wider synergies, as well as improving the research project produced.
  • The active interconnection with the labour market.
  • Attracting high-level faculty members from Greece and abroad.
  • The flexible use of alternative sources of funding (participation in international projects, self-financed curricula, grants/donations), in addition to public funding.
  • Improving the organization and delivery of Lifelong Learning programmes where possible.
  • The contribution of the BA to the continuous organization and implementation of activities of direct and indirect support to vulnerable social groups.

The Programme is committed to the implementation of a quality policy in conditions of security, equality and transparency, for the benefit of all members of its academic community.
